My Charles
Charlie was born in a barn & brought to a cat rescue shelter with 2 siblings. He was 9 months old when we first met. I went to the shelter looking to adopt a cat; I told them I had no preferences was just looking for a kitty that liked to snuggle. Right away she had just the cat for us - his name was Sphinx at the time. He was so long & skinny & just a sweetheart from the start. So we took him home on May 1, 2019 & named him Charlie.
On August 18 we celebrated his first birthday! In September I brought max home to foster and we know how that went. My biggest hesitation in adopting max was that him & Charlie didn't get along so it didn't seem fair to Charlie. Slowly max learnt that Charles was so sweet & not a threat at all. Took them a year or so but they were finally buddies ❤️.
Charlie stated eating less, but other than that was his normal happy purring self. Always came to the door when I got home for a snuggle. Usually saw me off when I left too just like Max. Him eating less was unusual since he always had such a big appetite. But since he still seemed fine & like his normal self, I thought he must just be being a picky cat. He'd still eat his special wet food each day but wasn't bothering with the dry much. He'd still switch bowls with max & they'd finish each others when they'd had enough of their own. Still laid with me every night to get all the scratches before bed, always purring and wanting to be pet longer than you'd expect a cat to want to be pet!
I finally brought him in to the vet on Thursday because he was just too skinny, and having my sister come see him with a fresh pair of eyes and being very knowledgeable of vet goings ons; something serious is going on here. Hopefully a blood test will show something that is very treatable with medication. That's the outcome we were expecting and hoping for. Felt so anxious waiting for the results, but did my best to stay positive and do anything not to worry. Had so much support which really helped ♥️
Unfortunately, bloodwork results showed infection, and x-ray confirmed the vets suspicions of a large mass in his intestines and stomach. He was starting to have discomfort so had to let him go in peace 💔
I held him until the very end. He was with us for less than 2 years but has had such a huge impact on our lives. I loved him more than I can ever express - he was just the best cat I could ever ask for. He would have been 3 in August.
My 7 year old son Ellis said Charlie was his favourite thing in the whole world.
Rest in peace, sweet Charles.
